I finally watched Atonement via Netflix. I have previously heard great things, but still assumed it to be a dry romance film. Fortunately, it went beyond numerous period piece love stories set during WWII by its attention to details specifically with use of color and sound. The vibrant rose and cobalt hues shown in the scenes with Cecile (Knightley) and Robbie (McAvoy) made the film seem naturally amourous. The rythmic tapping of a typewriter which coincided with gestures from the characters, authenticated the era and aided with the film's fluidity.
All in all, great costume design, intelligent camera usage (particularly pertaining to lens filters), and tolerable acting by the three main characters.
4 stars!
